Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) Program

Federal regulations allow Medicaid to pay health insurance premiums for individuals who have high cost medical conditions and cannot continue to pay their health plan premiums due to job loss, medical leave or other reasons. Individuals in this program include pregnant women, cancer and HIV patients and low birth weight/pre-term infants.

The Alabama HIPP Program is designed to save money for Medicaid families with high health care costs by eliminating most out-of-pocket medical expenses for qualifying Medicaid recipients. The program also helps Medicaid recipients by reimbursing a policyholder for the cost of health insurance provided by an employer or COBRA. In some cases, recipients may qualify to receive reimbursement for the cost of a family health insurance policy premium.

HIPP membership is completely free for those who qualify! With HIPP, Alabama Medicaid recipients not only keep their Medicaid coverage, they continue to receive benefits of their group health insurance.

Not currently insured through your job or COBRA? Let HIPP assist you in enrolling in a plan! When you qualify for HIPP, federal law makes it possible for you to enroll in employer-sponsored health insurance at any time of the year.
