Alabama Medicaid to Pursue an Alternative to Regional Care Organizations
Jul 27, 2017  -  Alabama Medicaid Commissioner Stephanie Azar announced Thursday that in light of known federal administration changes and potential congressional adjustments the Alabama Medicaid Agency will pursue an alternative to the Regional Care Organization (RCO) initiative to transform the Medicaid delivery system. Moving forward, the State will work with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to create a flexible program which builds off the Agency’s current case management structure as a more cost-efficient mechanism to improve recipients’ healthcare outcomes.
Public Comment Sought for Second RCO Amendment
Jun 2, 2017  -  The Alabama Medicaid Agency is seeking public comment on its proposed amendments to the CMS approved 1115 Waiver Project Number (11-W-00289/5). A copy of the proposed changes can be found on the Alabama Medicaid Agency website. The comment period is open until July 2, 2017. Public Hearings Set for Medicaid’s Plan First Section 1115 Demonstration Waiver Extension Application
Apr 25, 2017  -  Providers, recipients and other interested individuals will have the opportunity to provide input on the Alabama Medicaid Agency’s Plan First program during public hearings in May in Birmingham and Montgomery.
RCO implementation on schedule as new regions offered to other probationary RCOs
Feb 28, 2017  -  MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Medicaid Agency has been notified that Envolve, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centene, is ending its agreement as a capital contributor with all five Alabama Healthcare Advantage (AHA) organizations that had planned to operate as Regional Care Organizations this fall. Alabama Medicaid Commissioner Stephanie Azar said the AHA organizations have notified the Agency that they intend to end their pursuit of full certification, pending a final decision by the five regional boards in the upcoming days.
