There are two types of rural health clinics: Independent and Provider Based. Services include any medical service typically furnished by a physician in an office or a home visit.
Services provided by Independent Rural Health Clinics (IRHC) include those provided by physicians, nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants during the clinic's normal operation. There are 66 independent rural health clinics enrolled as Medicaid providers.
Provider Based Rural Health Centers (PBRHC) are an integral part of a hospital, skilled nursing facilities, or home health agency. Services may be provided by a physician, physician assistant, nursing practitioner, certified nurse midwife, and/or specialized nurse practitioner. There are 39 provider-based rural health centers enrolled as Medicaid providers.
