TO:  All Providers

The Alabama Medicaid Agency has rescinded the emergency amendment to the Alabama State Plan to provide COVID-19 testing for uninsured individuals that was effective March 18, 2020.

Alabama Medicaid received approval from CMS on May 11, 2020 for a Disaster Relief State Plan Amendment allowing for coverage of COVID-19 testing for the uninsured. Alabama Medicaid did not implement this coverage due to HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration) funds becoming available that reimburse providers for COVID-19 testing and treatment of uninsured individuals.

CMS has recommended that Alabama Medicaid rescind this Disaster Relief State Plan Amendment and resubmit if needed in the future.
