Medicaid patients may access medically necessary care in a variety of clinical settings. In addition to private offices and practices, primary care services are available through Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and rural health clinics.
More than 100 acute care and specialty hospitals participate in the Alabama Medicaid program, providing inpatient and outpatient services. In addition to acute care services, some hospitals offer swing beds or post hospital extended care for individuals who require nursing facility-level care but are not able to obtain placement in such a facility.
