Personal Choices

Alabama's Medicaid's "Personal Choices" program is an option for individuals who are part of a Home and Community-Based Waiver Services program (http://medicaid.alabama.gov/content/6.0_LTC_Waivers/6.1_HCBS_Waivers.aspx).

Under the Personal Choices program individuals are provided a monthly allowance from which they will determine what services they need. They may choose to hire someone to help with their care or they may wish to save money for equipment purchases. Financial counselors are available to guide them through the process which includes developing a budget to help manage the funds designated for their care.

The Personal Choices program is administered by the Alabama Department of Senior Services and is a collaborative effort with the Alabama Medicaid Agency and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services.
