Alabama's Medicaid's "Personal Choices" program is an option for individuals who are part of a Home and Community-Based Waiver Services program (http://medicaid.alabama.gov/content/6.0_LTC_Waivers/6.1_HCBS_Waivers.aspx).
Personal choices provides self-directed home and community based services. It is designed to offer seniors and individuals with disabilities more choices and flexibility in the type of care they receive. Clients enrolled in the program can use their allotted budgets to hire someone to help with their care, or they may wish to save money for equipment purchases. Counselors are available to guide them through the process, which inlcludes developing a budget to help manage the funds designated for their care.
